Committee
Description
Committees
are
the
working
force
of
the
Chamber/League.
It
is
in
the
committees
that
the
real
work
of
the
Chamber/League
is
accomplished.
The
Board
can
direct
and
propose
action
to
be
taken,
but
without
a
functioning
committee,
the
directives
of
the
Board
cannot
be
implemented.
Without
committees
there
would
be
no
Chamber/League.
The committee can be only as effective as
its Chairperson. The Chairperson is to the committee what
a captain is to a ball team -- he/she explains the task, lays
out the attack, lines up the team, and insures their operation
as the play moves from phase to phase.
The Chairperson provides active leadership,
making sure committees carry out assigned activities in the
program within the scope of the Program of Work.
COMMITTEE ORGANIZATION AND PERFORMANCE
The
purpose
of
the
committees
is
to
achieve
the
Chamber/League's
goals--
to
carry
out
the
Program
of
Work
of
the
Chamber/League.
Such
action
brings
about
community
betterment
and
improvement.
There
are
three
basic
committees
in
the
Chamber/League:
Administrative: These are usually concerned with
organization and operational procedures, such as: budget,
annual meeting, membership, etc.
Project: These are formed to carry out activity.
Examples are: Economic Development, Legislative, Crime Prevention,
Business Education, etc.
Study:
These
committees
usually
take
no
direct
action.
They
are
research
in
nature.
They
study
problems,
come
up
with
solutions,
recommend
solutions
to
the
board.
The
board
will
then
ask
the
committee
to
implement
the
solution,
or
it
may
form
an
entirely
new
committee
to
implement
the
solution.
